God is not an ATM

The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace, – Nehemiah 1:1

And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence. – Nehemiah 2:1

Jesus20PrayngBefore we even get into the heart of the message of Nehemiah, I would like to point out a major principal of prayer and serving the Lord. God is not an ATM.

We live in a microwave society where we get upset when it takes more than 2 minutes to get our fast-food burger. God’s timing is not our timing.  And sometimes it is a long wait for answer to prayer.

The month of Chisleu is equivalent to our November/December time frame. The month of Nisan is equivalent to our March/April. This means that Chapter 1 of this book is about 4 to 5 months in length. Nehemiah wept for Jerusalem for 4-5 months. He prayed for God’s help for 4-5 months. He waited on the Lord for 4-5 months!

But look at the results of his wait.  God answered, and He answered BIG TIME!
